This Charity Motorbike Lark Is All Go

Danny Bowes lead singer of Thunder

The trip has been spectacular in all respects. The travel to Calgary felt like the longest day of our lives, then the musicians had a bit of immigration drama, but after a bit of fast talking and charm, they let us in..

The scenery we’ve encountered has been incredible, and the rides up, down, round and through the mountains take your breath away.

One of the highlights for me was the ascent ofLogan’s Pass in Glacier National Parkin Montana:- It was closed the first time we tried, because of an avalanche the day before, but it re-opened yesterday. Unfortunately the world and his wife got there before us, so it took an age to reach the top, but the view was worth the 2 hours in the sweltering heat. Today we rode 260 miles from Missoula Montana to McCall Idaho.

It was like passing through 5 different countries, with ever changing scenery. We passed the 45th Parallel, which marks the mid point between the Equator and the North Pole, another highlight..

The people we’ve met have all been really interested in our fundraising for Childline and the ex servicemen and women, so hopefully there will be some healthy donations coming in, certainly the Thunder fundraising page is receiving money every day, so we’re happy.

That’s it from me, I’ve got 20 mins for a shower then we’re off to eat.. This charity motorbike lark is all go..

Best

Danny

England Rocks – Hands Across the Water!

My name is Daryl Clark and I’m the Founder of  ChildLine Rocks in theUK

ChildLine Rocks is the music industry coming together to raise funds for ChildLine. We gather the best bands, put on the best gigs and do whatever we can to make sure more children and young people get the help they need.

I’m a Brit who was born in Canada, and I’ve spent the last 3 years riding a hog in the Rocky Mountains of Canada and the US. This is where the inspiration for this ride of a lifetime came from- in aid of ChildLine, supporting children and young people in the UK, and in partnership with the Force Select Foundation, supporting Canadian, US and British servicemen wounded in combat.

On 11th July 25 intrepid riders on Harley Davidsons will leave southern BC and travel through British Columbia, Alberta, Montanaand into then into Idaho.  The group is aiming to raise a chunk of change for ChildLine and the Force Select Foundation.

The ride will culminate in a beautiful mountain town inIdahocalled Ketchum, the home of Ernest Hemingway. On 16/7 we are putting on a concert at the Sun Valley Pavillion, just outside Ketchum.  Ketchum has been voted the No 1 mountain biking destination in theUSA, and there will be  3,000 mountain bikers in town.

ChildLine Rocks has over 50 Ambassadors and Patrons, the latter being musicians who support us. Our latest Patron is Glenn Hughes, and our latest Ambassador is Andy Mcnab DCM MM. Since leaving the SAS, Andy has gone on to sell over 30m books as an author. He commanded Bravo 2 Zero in the first Gulf war and today is an adviser to the MOD and the FBI.. www.andymcnab.co.uk .

On the ride,   we are accompanied by two great British bands-all of the members of Thunder and The Union. Thunder are a great British rock act . Their “farewell” tour 18 months ago was their biggest, please see www.thunderonline.com . Danny Bowes has been voted by Kerrang! as Britain’s Best Rock Vocalist. Thunder were our house band for our first two ChildLine Rocks concerts, please see our website www.childlinerocks.co.uk .

From the ashes of Thunder comes The Union, which is principally Luke Morley and Peter Shoulder. Luke was the songwriter and lead guitar for Thunder, and Peter Shoulder is one of only 3 Britons to win a WC Handy award from the Blues Foundation of America. The Union just won Best New Breakthrough Band at last year’s Classic Rock Awards, please seewww.theuniononline.com .All members of Thunder and The Union are Patrons of  ChildLine Rocks.

I hope you’ll follow our blog over the coming week.

Lastly, a few words about ChildLine: It’s an amazing service that thousands of children access by phone or online at www.childline.org.uk  Children can talk to a counsellor (or chat online to a counsellor) about any problem they are worried about. I’ve visited ChildLine and met some of the amazing volunteers that are there to listen, support and protect. It’s a vital service to help keep children safe and supported.
